| Island LifeWhen Enzo  Ferrari refused to sell to Ford in the early 1960s, Ford set about an in-house  motorsport programme which was unprecedented by major motor manufacturers at  that time.  In 1965, the Ford GT40 was  still under development and, designed for the wide open straights of Le Mans,  was wholly unsuited to the twists and turns of the Targa Florio. Here, the  peace of rural Sicily is shattered as 4.7 litres of V8 Ford GT40 (driven by Bob  Bondurant and Sir John Whitmore) charges after the 3.3 litre V12 Ferrari  250/275 LM of Cesare Topetti and Maurizio Grana.  Neither car finished, the race being won by  the Ferrari 275P of Grand Prix star Lorenzo Bandini and local hero Nino  Vaccarella.  30"  x 24" For Sale
